Some of you may or may not have heard of Hay-on-Wye, nicknamed the Town of Books and home to the Telegraph Hay Festival. It is world renowned for books and bookshops. Hay nestles in the hilly surrounds of the Black Mountains and is directly on the border and England and Wales in the UK. Steeped in history, it is a mecca for booklovers and is chock a block full of secondhand bookshops. I get really excited when I go there. I'm so lucky as I only live about 40 minutes away! Today Dani from Pen To Paper blog paid me a visit and we headed off for a lovely visit to Hay.

One thing that always takes my breath away is the awesome view from the car park. It is why I really appreciate living in this rural area, undulating green hills and deep valleys. My photos really do not do this scenery any justice.

We were really sad to see our favourite bookshop - Bookends - had closed down. But more than made up for it with all the lovely books we brought home from the other shops.
The most unusual thing for me about Hay is the honesty box with racks and racks of books that sits outside the Hay Castle Bookshop. It really is a sight to behold. One lady jokingly commented to us that she wished they were in alphabetical order.
Just a small example of the honesty racks. |
On the way back to the car park we called in at the little craft centre and bought some fudge from the shop, I had to give in to my sweet tooth lol. So not only books but scrummy fudge as well. I didn't manage to bring anything home for Hades - no cuddly toys today :D I did manage to find 6 books, but I will reveal what they are when I do my Mailbox Sunday post.
Here we are standing outside the Hay Castle Bookshop. |
