Musing Mondays #4

Musing Mondays is a weekly feature hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.  Each week MizB asks a book related question and we have to give our answers.

This week’s musing asks…

 Have you ever found a book out of the blue, read it, and then had it be surprisingly good — one that stuck with you for years? If so, what book was it?

I used to go to a small local charity bookshop in my nearest town and have a look through the books.  There were always new books in all the time.  I remember seeing  this book catch my eye and thought mmmm this looks like a weird and wonderful book.  

It was The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. Just the title of this book made me want to read it. After reading the blurb on the back I have to say it was nothing to what I was expecting. But I thought I'd give it a try anyway and you know what..... I really really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it that  much  I went and bought another book by this author the same day, Oryx & Crake.  I still have to read Oryx & Crake by the way, but it's a book I'm saving for a rainy day. 

Goodreads Synopsis: The Year of The Flood by Margaret Atwood

 The sun brightens in the east, reddening the blue-grey haze that marks the distant ocean. The vultures roosting on the hydro poles fan out their wings to dry them. The air smells faintly of burning. The waterless flood - a man-made plague - has ended the world.

But two young women have survived: Ren, a young dancer trapped where she worked, in an upmarket sex club (the cleanest dirty girls in town); and Toby, who watches and waits from her rooftop garden.
