Musing Monday #9

Musing Mondays is a weekly feature hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.  Each week MizB asks a book related question and we have to give our answers.

This week’s musing asks…

Do you set goals for yourself, while reading? For example, “I want to get this book finished this weekend“, or “I will read __ pages today“, etc. Why, or why not?

Absolutely not!  I hate reading goals as I always feel like a caged bird.  For me reading is fun and unrestricted.  I want to enjoy it and start to feel under pressure if I have to set goals.  Now I have my kindle I tend to find I read more.  It is so easy to pick up and put down.  So even if I am sat waiting in the car for someone I will often pick up my kindle and read a couple of pages. Also I never used to take books out and about with me in my bag, as they were always getting raggy edges.  Now I can take my kindle and because it has a cover it is protected.  I tend to read my paperbacks at home and my kindle out and about and at work.  So I always have more than one book on the go at any one time.

So again no no no to reading goals.  I don't like them!

I'm the same way. Reading is supposed to be fun, and if I add pressure, it's not fun anymore.
