Soulless by Gail Carriger (Signed Copy) Giveaway (Int)

Gail Carriger (on left) and Emily Ladybird (on right)
Didn't I have a lovely day, the day I went to Nottingham :)

Well a week and a half ago I was very fortunate to be asked by Dani @ Pen to Paper if I would like to go on a little adventure.

So off we went to an author talk by the lovely Gail Carriger at Waterstones in Nottingham.  Gail Carriger is author of the Parasol Protectorate series, the first book in the series is called Soulless.

Anyway back to the fabulous event. When we arrived we were met with a lovely table of cakes and Pimms, yum yum!

Well, it was a great evening of Steampunk and books, books, books all mixed into one.  I had an awesome time!

Some of the amazing outfits
There were some of the most amazing Steampunk inspired outfits I have ever had the pleasure of clapping my eyes on.  I really did feel under-dressed in my jeans and cardigan.

The author talk consisted of Gail reading a chapter from one of her books and answering a vast amount of questions from the audience.  Then came the book signing, yay.  I manage to get four books signed, two for me and two for you lovely followers. I also managed to get a picture with Gail.  If you want to see more photos from the event then you can visit my facebook blog page. HERE

So this giveaway is for a signed copy of Soulless, this is book one in the Parasol Protectorate series.  It's open to International followers.

So I feel like my favorite book is always changing because there are always wonderful books coming out all the time that I love, but I would have to say my all time favorite book would have to be Emeralds and Espionage by Lynn Gardner. This book is what really got me into reading when I was about 12 years old and I have read it many times.

That's just crazy, one book! :-)
Not my favourite of all time, but a serious classic that everyone should most definitely read at least once in their life is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The narrative and characterisation is just mind blowing. Such a wonderful gothic piece of fiction. I've never quite found imagery, so original, so fresh and vivid in any book.

Sara In Bookland said...

There are plenty of books I would recommend!
I think that everyone know about The Hunger Games or The Mortal Instruments so other books that I really liked were "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde and "Bag of Bones" by Stephen King! (:
Thank you for the giveaway!

The Book I Would Recommend Is Guilty Pleasures By Laurell K Hamilton its the first in her Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series I Would Recommend You Read All Of The Books In The Series But Start With That One First.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. It's funnier than the film and my all time favourite book. I've 'pushed' it onto my mum, my brothers, my sisters, my friends - even a total stranger once. I was on the train and he saw I was reading it. I think he was just being polite but I launched into a huge diatribe about how great it was and by the end of it he just looked scared... whoops?!

Lothfleur said...

My all time favourite is His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, more actually the third book, the Amber Spyglass. It's... amazing, imaginative, touching, and deep.

Thanks for the international giveway!

Apparently I'm none too good at this blog post comment thing, as this is the fourth time I've tried!! But hey, it's helping me to pare down the wordiness each time ;) Since so many others have mentioned rather current books, I figured I would go back to my true loves, the classics. I cannot choose just ONE, so here's a little sampling of FOUR that I absolutely love and would highly recommend! (in no particular order)

"Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte
"Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte
"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley
"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee

(You sense a theme?? Yes, I do love the Gothic setting/sensibility, and tend to prefer female writers!)

There is one particular brand-new book that absolutely blew me away when I just read it, and it has definitely been added to my list of favorites (to which I haven't added anything in quite some time...after you have a baby (ok it was four years ago) you just don't have the time/energy/concentration to read like you used to!!). "Defending Jacob," by William Landay, is absolutely incredible, un-freakin-believable, a legal thriller, yes, but oh, so much more than that. I could go on and on, BUT, suffice it to say - if you haven't read it yet, you should!!

Thanks again for the giveaway, and I love the pics from the party you went to! :)

Oh man, that's a hard question. I enjoy fantasy books, and horror/gothic books to. So I have to say, if you are into that sort of thing, I would recommend:

"The Last Unicorn"
Books by Diana Wynne Jones
*Some* books by Stephen King
"Frankenstein"
"Dracula"

I would firstly like to thank you for an apsolutely increadible book giveaway, that is of much interest & a genre that i love. Thank you once again for an increadible book giveaway, and i am so pleased to have found your amazing book blog - i am following by email, which i hope is okay as i am not on GFC or similar?! Xx
