Blog Tour: Straight To Heaven by Michelle Scott (Day 2)

Hi guys!  I'm so amazingly happy to be able to do another stop on the Straight To Heaven blog tour
The Lilith Straight series is amazing, if you haven't read the first book Straight To Hell, then I urge you to.

So for day two of the tour I have a guest post from Michelle Scott.  I hope you enjoy it!!!

Guest Post by Michelle Scott:

One of my favorite things about being a writer is completing a project. Whether it’s a short story or a novel, I experience a wonderful high each time I finish. A writing project, even something as small as a short story, can take me anywhere from six months to six years to complete. Then, when the final draft has been written, it’s off to the editor for another harrowing few months of revisions. This is why it’s such a victory to finish a project.

Usually, when I finish a novel, I’m all alone in my office, and I do what I refer to as my ‘happy dance’. This involves jiggling about in my chair while pumping my arms over my head. Obviously, I look ridiculous which is why I only do this dance when I’m all alone.

Knowing how much I love finishing a project, my daughters told me that my solo chair dance was not enough of a victory celebration. They said that I wasn’t a real writer until I smashed a wineglass in the fireplace when I finished a novel. I have no idea where they picked this image up, but it apparently stuck with them. So, the last time I finished writing a book, they insisted that I drink a glass of champagne and throw the glass into the fireplace.

Why not, I thought. I mean, it isn’t often that I indulge my kids to the point of absurdity. Besides, my wine glasses all come from Ikea and are therefore cheap and easily replaced. Since we didn’t have any champagne, I settled for white wine. They poured me a glass and stared at me while I drank it. “This could take a while,” I told them, but they persisted.

Finally, when I finished the wine, I got ready to throw the glass. The moment before I flung it, I asked, “Who’s cleaning up the mess?”

They eyed each other. Cleaning up was not a part of the fantasy. Finally, my older daughter said, “You?”

“No way,” I said. “I’m the writer. The writer doesn’t have to clean up the glass.”

“Maybe we don’t need to do this after all,” my younger daughter said.

Since then, I’ve gone back to my solo chair dance. It may be embarrassing, but it’s definitely not as messy.

Great post. i love the image of your daughters eagerly waiting for you to gulp down the wine! My music tastes lean toward alternative rock and classical, but if it is good I am not to picky on the genre!

Thanks, everyone! And thanks for hosting me, Jenny! :) Can you believe that just this last weekend, the topic came up all over again!! Only this time, my daughters reminded me that the glass in the fireplace thing had come from movie, "Nim's Island", lol.

I really enjoyed reading the post. "Who is going to clean the mess?" :)) Your "happy dance" is safe now.
